Day at the Chief
August 4, 2012
Connell and I decided to do a day hike up the Chief near Squamish, BC
This was the first time that I had been up there. When we pulled up into the parking lot it was jammed full of cars and tourists totally not prepared to go for a hike. Tom’s and flip flops seriously?
We made our way through the campsite and tackled the awkwardly sized staircase. We eventually made it up to the ‘rock’ where most people take a break prior to branching off either the first, second, or third peak of the mountain.
On the right side of the agent is a nice mountain creek. Probs Shannon Falls. The hike up to the ‘rock’ is similar to the Grouse Grind.
We decided to head up to second peak. On our way up the mountain we cam across two ladies and a small boy named Sam. Sam was about 6 years old and he was done skies. Same was sandbagging but was putting up with the two ladies he was with.
We made it to the metal chain and traversed the rocks on the switch back trail. We then made it the ladder where a group of 15-25 people were coming down. Simply, put some people have no idea how to manage people. We eventually made it to the top of the mountain where many people were having snack and packed lunches along with snapping some nice shots.
On our way down to try and avoid the crowds we hiked to the base of third peak and then made our way down.
Some dude totally ripped himself a new knee but he was ok. Up and down a few hours.
